Step-by-step guide
How to use mévoire.
From installing the extension to importing from Raindrop: each chapter shows the gesture in motion and explains it in three or four steps. Read it through, or jump to what you need.
Install the extension
For Chrome, Brave, Edge and Arc. Free, no account, and it stores no data: it hands what you capture to mevoire.com, inside your browser.
- Open mévoire’s page on the Chrome Web Store ↗ (or search the store for “mévoire”) and click “Add to Chrome”.
- Confirm with “Add extension”. The extension’s welcome page opens by itself.
- Pin the button to the toolbar: click the extensions icon (the puzzle piece) and the pin next to “mévoire”.
- On the welcome page, turn on “Highlights on pages” if you want to highlight text on any site. Chrome asks for that permission then, and only then.
Without “Highlights on pages” you can still highlight from the right-click menu, on the page where you use it. The extension never reads pages on its own.
Save with the extension
One click on the button, a shortcut, or the right-click menu. The capture window shows what will be kept before you save.
- Click the mévoire button in the toolbar, or press ⌘⇧S (Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows): the capture window opens with the page, its description and the article text.
- Select text and right-click: “Save to mévoire” keeps the page, the link, the term or the excerpt, with the sentence it appears in.
- In the window, type tags separated by commas (“reading/essays, focus”), pick the space and the collection, and click “Save”.
The article text is kept with the reference, so you can read it later offline. A page you already saved is not duplicated; its text copy is refreshed.
Save without the extension
On your phone, in another browser, or with a copied link, mévoire saves just the same.
- In the Inbox, the “Save” column has four gestures: “Paste copied link”, “Note”, “Link” and “Excerpt”.
- On your phone, tap “+” in the bottom bar. With the app installed on Android, mévoire appears in the Share menu; on iPhone, add the “Save to mévoire” shortcut under “Settings” → “Save from other apps”.
- In any browser, nothing to install: type mevoire.com/ before the page address and press Go.
“Note” creates a free-standing note; “Excerpt” keeps a passage with its source; “Link” keeps an address with a title and tags.
Read
Every saved page brings the article text. You read in a clean reader, with no ads and no internet, and your progress is kept.
- On a card, click “Read in mévoire”. The reader shows only the text; the bar at the top keeps your place.
- The Inbox has “Continue reading”: the reference where you stopped, ready to open.
- When you finish, “Done” takes the reference out of the Inbox and leaves it in the Library. You can also mark it as read without opening it, or send it back to “Read later”.
Opening a page does not mark it as read: you decide when it is.
Highlight
Select a sentence and pick a colour. The highlight is kept with the reference and comes back every time you open it.
- In the reader, select text: a bar appears with five colours, “Note”, “Excerpt”, “Term” and “Copy with source”.
- “Note” writes a note about that passage; “Excerpt” and “Term” keep it in the library, with the source and the sentence it appears in.
- Click a highlight to change its colour, see its note or remove it. An article’s highlights are listed at the end of the reader.
- With the extension and “Highlights on pages” on, the same gesture works on any site, and the highlights are redrawn when you return to the page.
Organise
Tags that work as folders, collections, spaces and favourites. No imposed structure.
- Type “reading/essays” as a tag: the slash creates the reading folder with the essays subfolder. Each level is still a plain tag you can filter by.
- In the tag explorer, right-click (or “⋯”) renames or deletes a tag and its subfolders; on your phone, swipe the row to the left.
- Collections group references; spaces separate lives (personal, work). You switch spaces in the top menu and move references between them.
- The star marks favourites. The eye hides what you no longer want in sight: the reference leaves the Library without being deleted and stays in search and in “Show hidden”.
The homes: Notes, Excerpts and Terms
The Library has everything. Each home holds only its own: notes on a desk, excerpts and terms in lists of their own.
- In “Notes”, drag on the desk to draw a note. Move it by its title bar and resize it from a corner.
- “New note” or a double-click on the desk also create one. A note can be linked to an article: it shows up there and on the desk. On your phone, notes appear as a list.
- “Excerpts” (I quote) and “Terms” (I learn) keep what you selected in articles, with the original sentence and the source, so you can return to them without rereading everything.
Remind
A bell on every reference: mévoire reminds you to come back, and so does your calendar.
- Click the bell on a card and choose when: tonight, tomorrow, in a week, or a day and time of your own.
- “Google Calendar” and “Outlook” open the event already filled in, with the link to the reference; “.ics” downloads it for any other calendar.
- At the set time, the reference appears under “Reminders” in the Inbox, with “Snooze” and “Done”.
Search
A search that reads everything: titles, article text, excerpts, notes, highlights and tags.
- Type in the search box, or press ⌘K (Ctrl+K) anywhere in the app.
- Accents don’t matter: “atencao” finds “atenção”. With several words, only references that have all of them appear.
- Search also finds what you have hidden.
On your phone
mevoire.com installs as an app, with no store and no account, and opens offline.
- iPhone and iPad: open mevoire.com in Safari, tap Share and “Add to Home Screen”.
- Android: open mevoire.com in Chrome, tap the ⋮ menu and “Add to Home screen” or “Install app”.
- Open it from the new icon, online the first time. After that, the app and your saved articles open without a connection.
Without an account, each device has its own library. For the same library everywhere, see the next chapter.
Account and sync
Optional. Without an account, everything stays in your browser; with one, the library follows you to every device.
- In “Settings”, click “Sign in to sync” and use your email, with a password or a code sent by email.
- “Import this device’s references into this account” adds what you already had in the browser.
- “Export full backup (JSON)” keeps everything; “Restore a JSON backup” puts it back. “Export references and notes (Markdown)” takes the text wherever you like.
With an account, your data lives in a database in the European Union, guarded by rules that only let you read your own.
Import from Raindrop and browsers
Bring the library you already have. From Raindrop come the tags, notes, excerpts, favourites and highlights; from any browser, the bookmarks with their folders.
- In Raindrop (app.raindrop.io), open Settings → Backups and create a new backup; when the email arrives, download the CSV file. For a single collection, open it, use “Export” and choose CSV.
- In mévoire, open “Settings” → “Import bookmarks (HTML or Raindrop CSV)” and choose the file. The dialog says how many references, tags, notes and highlights it found.
- Pick the space and click “Import”. Folders become collections, tags stay tags, a highlight’s note becomes a note linked to the passage, and anything already there is skipped.
- From browsers: export your bookmarks as HTML (in Chrome, Bookmark manager → ⋮ → “Export bookmarks”) and import them with the same button.
Imported references enter the Library already marked as read, so they don’t flood the Inbox. Highlights appear in the reader the first time you read the article.
Language and appearance
Portuguese or English, light or dark.
- The “PT / EN” button at the top switches the app’s language; the moon switches dark mode on and off.
- Everything you write stays as it is: the language only changes the interface.
